Unveiling of a Memorial Plaque

The 17th Pals’ Battalion Band were approached by The Western Front Association for buglers to play during the unveiling of a memorial plaque in Walthamstow, to commemorate the deaths of three Fireguards during bombing in WW2. During WW2 the Government passed an act stating that due to the “Blitz”, all areas of London should form Fire protection parties. Remembrance Sunday 2017

Remembrance Sunday saw the band assist the Leyton Branch of the Royal British Legion with its Act of Remembrance in Coronation Gardens, Leyton, after which it lead the parade to the Parish Church. This is something the band has done for many years and it is always a popular event, particularly as the band is invited to attend the Legion’s HQ for lunch! The popularity of the 17th Pals’ Battalion Band has led to a busy schedule of events, which as you would expect includes assisting and taking part in commemorations around the time of Remembrance Sunday. In 2017, and for the first time, the buglers were invited to take part in two separate ceremonies at the same time on the Saturday prior to Remembrance Sunday. 11th April 2007, commemoration service at St Mary’s Church, Chigwell for Pte Thomas Edwards VC The following text was published in the local Guardian: PTE Thomas Edwards (1861-1952) is buried at St. Mary’s Church, High Road, Chigwell. He was part of The Royal Highlanders (The Black Watch) attached to the Royal Navy during the Battle of Tamaai.
